Determining Pre-Existing Conditions |
Pre-Existing Conditions are any medical condition which existing before enrolling in Visitors Medical Insurance. Our resident physician, Dr. Nikitha Mantri, MBBS, says there are a few ways to determine if a medical event is caused by a pre-existing condition:
|
1. Patient History FormWhen a patient is admitted to a health care provider, they are required to fill out a Patient History Form. In this form, patients are asked about the medical history. This includes any medication taken, any past medical issues, surgeries, or illnesses which may have has a long term impact on health.
Dr. Nikitha advises to be completely honest on this form. It is important for the doctor to have all the information they need to make a proper diagnosis and help your visitor get back to a healthy condition. 3. Lab Results & DiagnosisA Doctor may order lab tests to determine if there are any signs of pre-existing conditions. These tests include blood tests to check for cholesterol & blood sugar level. After the lab comes back with results, the Doctor can determine if levels in your blood are associated with pre-existing conditions.
The diagnosis is placed in a Doctor's notes, which are shared with the insurance company. This information will be used to determine if pre-existing coverage is necessecery when paying a claim. |
2. Doctors OpinionDuring an initial doctors visit, a physician could ask questions about your visitors health history to properly diagnose any current medical issue. Knowing a patients medical history helps a doctor make an informed diagnosis & determine if a pre-existing condition was the cause of the current medical issue.
Nevertheless, Dr. Nikitha recommends getting a second opinion for more serious medical conditions, such as cancer or heart disease issues. |
